As the summer months approach, the need for NFCC assistance increases. Our case workers continue to see an average of 112 families a day, who are in need of food, clothing, and emergency assistance. In 2012, NFCC saw 15,000 low-income individuals within the North Fulton communities of Roswell, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton and Mountain Park. Many of those served by NFCC are minimum wage earners, and we provide support and assistance to the growing number of area residents who are unemployed, underemployed, or struggling to provide essential needs, to their families. For many, NFCC remains the “lifeline” to receive the support needed to move towards self-sufficiency.

In support of our motto, “Together we can help,” the golf tournament provides a way for our community to help others,” said Vonda Malbrough, NFCC Development Director.

This year’s campaign collected over 21 tons of food to benefit families that rely on NFCC.

“We are thankful to the Letter Carriers, who make the special effort every year to deliver reminders to all their customers, which creates tremendous response from our community. We also appreciate the bags that are donated by our friends at Publix, which are not only used to collect food, but which are also re-used to package food to our families. We are also supported by the Young Men’s Service League (YMSL), and Called To Serve (CATS), which provided many volunteers to do heavy lifting in the rain in order to get the food to NFCC,” stated Kevin Tracy, NFCC Food Pantry Manager.

ATLANTA – The Bank of America Charitable Foundation has recognized North Fulton Community Charities and the Atlanta Technical College Foundation as part of its Neighborhood Builder® program. The recognition awards high-performing nonprofits that have made a significant impact in the community working in the bank’s priority funding areas of housing, jobs and hunger relief. The Neighborhood Builder program is a strategic investment that pairs leadership training with a $200,000 unrestricted grant so leaders gain valuable skills while applying funding where it is most needed.

“Nonprofits provide much needed services in metro Atlanta, but too often lack the opportunity to invest in their own long-term growth and development,” said Geri Thomas, Georgia president, Bank of America. “By recognizing North Fulton Community Charities and Atlanta Technical College Foundation as Neighborhood Builders, we know that they are poised to make an even greater impact in our community.”

North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC) will use its grant to launch a Mobile Outreach Program to provide emergency assistance services to people living in the Roswell, Mountain Park, Alpharetta, Johns Creek and Milton areas of Fulton County. NFCC is purchasing a van equipped with an office, waiting area and storage area for non-perishable food. The Mobile Outreach will travel to accessible locations and provide its assistance services, which include food and financial assistance among others. Public transportation is very limited in parts of North Fulton and some residents have difficulty getting to NFCC’s Roswell center. “The van will extend our ability to offer critical programs and services that help struggling North Fulton families move toward self-sufficiency,” said Barbara Duffy, executive director, NFCC. “And the van also will serve as a traveling ‘billboard’ to help raise awareness of the growing level of need in our community.” NFCC encourages our community to come and tour our facility.

According to the Bridgespan Group, Neighborhood Builders is the largest investment in nonprofit leadership development: 2.5 times the next largest program (in spending) and the third largest in number of leaders served. Since 2004, Bank of America has invested more than $165 million through the program, recognized over 730 nonprofits and trained nearly 1,500 nonprofit leaders. The Neighborhood Builders program is a capstone initiative building on the bank’s broader philanthropic commitment to addressing core issues that are critical to the economic vitality of local economies, with a particular focus on low and moderate income communities.
