This thank you note was received from a family of 8 who found coats of all sizes and shapes during our Warm Coat Day on November 5th.

Dear Whom it may concern,

I just want to thank all of you for what all you do for my kids. I do my best every year to have something special for my kids every time. My kids are worth more than anything in this whole wide world. Thanks again for what all you do. It is a blessing from God, like angels dancing in Heaven. Thank you, from me, my wife and my six kids.

We could not do what we do without you. With your help, we were able to provide 318 families with 1,590 warm coats, jackets and hoodies. In addition, we were able to give over 1,200 hats, mittens, gloves and caps. Hundreds of churches, schools, businesses, civic groups and individuals cleaned out closets to make sure we had enough for everyone. No one left empty-handed. Families who were not able to attend the Warm Coat Day, can still use their coat vouchers in our Thrift Shop during the cold winter months ahead.

The 2011 NFCC Holiday Program is underway and needs your help. With the unemployment rate continuing to rise, we anticipate an increased need to support this program. Last year, NFCC assisted:

3400 Children

1200 Families

143 Seniors

This program is vital to our community and we want to make sure that every family is dressed warmly and can celebrate the holiday season. So, your help is needed. There are many ways to get involved and to assist your North Fulton neighbors. As you visit this website, look for opportunities to serve, make a financial donation, sponsor a family or senior for the holidays or support our Thanksgiving food drive or our Santa Shop toy drive.

Contact Eden Purdy at epurdy@nfcchelp.org for more information.

By close at 5pm, 830 families had picked up groceries for a Thanksgiving meal. We gave out 325 frozen turkeys and gift cards totaling $18,900. After the turkeys ran out, we gave out bigger vouchers so the family had enough to purchase their own turkey. The first 530 families also got a loaf of pumpkin bread baked by the Milton High School Robotics Club. Over the two days we had 423 volunteers at the Holiday distribution site at Roswell Town Center, and I suspect there are more than a few sore backs in North Fulton today after lifting all that food. On November 22nd, 142 senior/disabled households will receive their holiday food. Some will be picking up here at our Elkins Road center, and others have requested a home delivery. Local Girl Scout troops delivered baskets for seniors, and volunteers will make home deliveries for those seniors who did not have a sponsor. The Thanksgiving Food Drive and Distribution could not be possible without the gracious support of our community. Many blessings and Happy Thanksgiving from your friends at NFCC.

Who is the family you may sponsor? A family like Maria’s, she first came to NFCC in 2008 as a single mother with two boys. NFCC helped her feed and clothe her children, and keep the rent paid. Working at a car wash, and trying to take care of two children was more than she could handle alone. NFCC and her family sponsor were there each holiday season to make sure the children had warm coats for colder days, a Thanksgiving meal to share as a family, and a holiday season filled with celebration and gifts for the children. Three years later, the boys have joined the military. The oldest has just returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan and the youngest is still there. Maria looks forward to the day he will return safely. She gives thanks to NFCC and to the many holiday sponsors who helped make the holidays special for her family. The family you may sponsor is a family like Maria’s. A family who struggles everyday to keep the family together, housed and fed, clothed and healthy.

As a Family Sponsor, you will receive a family letter about the family, a wish list from each child in the family, and a report that includes family clothing sizes, ages, and first names. These documents help personalize the experience for you, giving you the information you need to provide for the family during the holiday season. Sponsors commit to purchasing 2-3 new gifts or toys for the children and a gift card for a holiday meal. A family gift, the whole family can enjoy is optional and gift cards for the parents is optional. Find out more on the Family Sponsorship page.

We hope you will consider sponsoring a family this holiday season.

The Holiday Program is underway and the Holiday Team has some new and returning faces. We have added a part time Administrative Assistant. Michele Armstrong has joined the holiday team after working as one of two bi-lingual intake specialists at NFCC. She brings over twenty years experience as a holiday elf. In addition, Thanksgiving Coordinators, Julie Binney and Jacquie Tracy have returned for their third year, and Michelle Weaver has returned for a second year as the Senior Sponsorship Coordinator. Santa Shop Coordinator, Rhonda Mallory has returned for a second year of supervising Santa’s Workshop. Rob Ballard returns as Parking Lot and Distribution Manager. NFCC thanks each of these people for their commitment to making the Holiday Program run successfully for the over 1,500 families, 2,000 volunteers, 500 sponsors, and 700 donors who will participate this year.

Make plans now, to join this special group of individuals, churches, organizations, businesses, schools and synagogues to bring the joy of the Holiday Season to North Fulton families in need. Save the date or dates and sign up to help. We need family sponsors, new toys and gifts for our Santa Shop and financial donations. Have a food drive, a coat drive or toy drive. There are many ways to get involved.

Help us fill our Santa Shop with new toys and gifts for parents who will select free toys and gifts for their children on December 17th and 18th. Qualified families who do not participate in our Sponsored Family program will be able to provide a special Christmas for their children with your help. Our greatest need is for children 9-12 and teens. These age groups are hard for any parent to please, where technology and higher priced gifts top their wish lists. Gift cards to movie theaters, game stores and mind challenging puzzles or games are a few ideas. Visit our Santa Shop page to learn more or download our flyer and have a toy drive.

For more information, please contact Eden Purdy at epurdy@nfcchelp.org or Click here to download our toy drive flyer. Post it at work, church, or in your neighborhood.
