Poverty Simulation is an exploration of the challenges that families in poverty face every day. You will be divided up into family units reflecting pre-assigned skills, income, housing and a variety of stumbling blocks. Around the room, NFCC Staff and selected helpers will be manning tables like PayDay Loan, Unemployment Office, MARTA, Jail, School, Food Bank, etc. According to each “family’s” needs, participants will move around the room trying to access services. During the simulation, a number of things may happen (your kid is sick and you have to go get him from school, you lost your paycheck, etc.) that you have to navigate. There will be a lot of laughs but it can be a very discomforting experience because you end up feeling very frustrated, helpless and out of control. (That is the point of the exercise!) At the end, the whole group assembles to debrief. For more information, contact Sharla Calloway or click here.
