On May 6, NFCC’s multi-employers Job Fair welcomed nearly 200 job seekers to meet with recruiters from 16 hiring companies. A recent addition to NFCC’s Workforce Development Program, the Job Fair included a wide range of companies looking to fill many types of positions. The event was made possible by our sponsor Wellstar Health Systems.
NFCC’s Job Fair provided Andrea with a needed dose of hope. After sending out dozens of resumes and getting very few responses, she finally had a chance to meet face-to-face with employers at the Job Fair last week.
“I’ve worked in IT, so I understand all the applicant tracking systems and keyword searches, but good ol’ networking is the only way you’re going to get a job when recruiters are flooded with resumes and they don’t know you personally,” said Andrea.
Andrea is looking for a job in project management, and she feels that meeting with hiring managers in person was beneficial. “It helps to have a verbal conversation. When everything’s online, they don’t know your communication skills set or get to know your personality,” says Andrea. “This was wonderful. I’m so glad I came. I feel like I made some good connections today.”
Quinn Knight Warner, is the Career Services Coordinator at The Drake House, which assists mothers and children transitioning out of homelessness. Quinn attended the job fair to help facilitate several of Drake House’s clients in meeting with potential employers and to gather information for others who couldn’t attend.
Quinn said that the event was worthwhile for the Drake House clients. “This morning, one of the clients was able to meet with a company, and now she has an interview scheduled tomorrow,” said Quinn.
Lauren, another Job Fair attendee, recently lost her job in public health. She wants to explore different types of opportunities, so she was pleased with the variety of employers and how well the event was organized. Lauren left with several leads to follow up with.
Many attendees, including Andrea, Lauren and Quinn, shared how encouraged they were after meeting with hiring managers at the event. NFCC is grateful for the opportunity to connect those in need of work with companies looking for talents.
NFCC thanks all of the volunteers who made the Job Fair possible. We couldn’t have done it without an incredible crew to help us with planning, set up, check-in, ect traffic, and offer job coaching. Your commitment to helping others find career success and financial stability is incredible!
