Lasting Impact: Reflections from an NFCC Case Manager

After more than 25 years of dedicated service, Ruth Font has seen the needs of our community evolve and grow. We asked her to reflect on the changes she has witnessed over the decades and to share what gives her hope for the future.

Her words are a powerful reminder of the lasting impact that compassion, consistency, and community support can have on generations of families.

I have been with NFCC for more than 25 years, and during that time, I have walked alongside many families who came to us for help. They came seeking food, clothing, financial support, or seasonal programs like Back to School, Coatsgiving, or other seasonal assistance.

What stands out to me now is that we are beginning to see the second generation come through our doors. These are the children of the families we first served. What is even more powerful is the progress they are making.

Many of the parents I worked with did not finish high school. They were focused on survival and doing their best to give their children a better future. Now, those children are returning with bigger dreams and higher goals.

Some are in college or technical programs. I have met young adults studying to become computer engineers, nurses, dental assistants, chefs, and business owners. One young man was accepted to Harvard. Another is a photography technician who was invited to work with National Geographic.

This progress is happening across all backgrounds and communities. It shows that the support we provide, along with the efforts of churches, schools, clinics, and social workers, is making a lasting difference.

What gives me the most hope is seeing these young adults return with confidence, clear goals, and a strong sense of purpose. They are building on the strength of their families and the support of this community. While they may still need help from time to time, they are not just surviving. They are reaching for more.

NFCC has been a pillar in this community for generations. To everyone who supports our mission, thank you. You are part of this story.

Together, we are building something that lasts.
