Community Champions don’t always realize the impact they’re capable of having.
Sometimes it starts with simply looking around and asking:
“What can I do to help?”
For Rider, a high school senior at Blessed Trinity, it started while cleaning out his family’s garage.
After years of playing sports with his younger brother, Rider realized they had accumulated equipment that was no longer being used. Instead of letting it sit untouched, he had an idea: organize a sports equipment drive so other kids could have access to the same opportunities he had growing up.
What began as a small idea quickly grew into something much bigger.
Rider rallied classmates, parents, teammates, and school leadership around the effort. Through word of mouth, school announcements, and community support, the drive collected hundreds of pieces of gently used sports equipment.
Because of that effort, NFCC was able to host a special Used Sports Equipment Giveaway this past February, serving more than 130 neighbors on a warm Saturday morning. Families arrived early and waited at the doors, excited for the opportunity to access equipment for soccer, football, baseball, lacrosse, and more.
For many families, sports can feel financially out of reach. But for one day, because a student decided to act, barriers were lowered and opportunities opened.
When asked why the drive mattered to him, Rider shared:
“Sports teaches you so much character, hard work, having the right attitudes. So I think making it easy for some people to be able to play sports is a great way to not only help the community, but build character of individuals.”
That is what Community Champions Week is all about.
Today, we invite you to celebrate a Community Champion in your own life.
Make a gift in honor of someone who has encouraged you, supported others, or helped strengthen this community. Throughout the week, we’ll be featuring some of your dedications and kind words on social media as we celebrate the people making a difference across North Fulton every day.
Whether through giving, volunteering, advocating, or encouraging others forward, every action strengthens our community.
