Smart Giving Options: Donating Securities and Other Tax Deferred Investments

Gift of Securities: Stocks, Bonds, or Mutual Funds
Donating appreciated stocks or other securities can be a smart way to give. This giving strategy may allow you to avoid capital gains taxes and receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the asset.

To make an electronic transfer via your broker or bank, follow these steps:
Inform your broker and North Fulton Community Charities that you want to make a transfer of stocks or other securities.
You, your broker, or banker should email John Doolen ([email protected]) or call 678-830-2235 to inform NFCC of your impending transfer. Include your name, address, number of shares, name of the securities (company name or stock symbol), and the name of your financial institution.

IRA Disbursements
If you are 70½ or older: You may transfer donations of up to $100,000 from your individual retirement account (IRA) per year, tax free.
Instead of depositing the required minimum distribution (RMD) into your bank account for direct donation, qualified charitable distributions sent to North Fulton Community Charities will count toward your RMD and won’t be included in your adjusted gross income.

Donor Advised Fund
Donor Advised Funds are a simple, flexible, and tax-efficient way to support NFCC’s mission. If you have a DAF, you can recommend a grant to NFCC directly from your fund.
