Ninety days after receiving support, clients of North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC) often receive a simple follow-up call.
It is called an impact call. A chance to check in, to listen, and to understand what life looks like on the other side of a difficult season.
When Ingrid made that call to Luis, she expected a quick update.
What she received was something more.
Luis shared openly about the months leading up to that moment. After losing his job in May 2025, he spent nine months searching for work with no success. The pressure of rent, bills, and uncertainty built quickly.
“I was facing possible eviction and bankruptcy,” he said. “It was a very difficult time in my life.”
Through that season, NFCC stepped in with rental assistance, access to the food pantry, and connection to career coaching. With the help of Career Coach David Powell, Luis spent hours preparing, refining his resume, and continuing to apply even when doors did not open.
Partners like Saint Vincent de Paul also played a role, helping coordinate additional support that allowed him to stay afloat.
Then, after months of trying, something changed.
Luis secured a position in his field with Wells Fargo and began preparing for his next chapter.
When Ingrid reached him, his message was simple.
“I am very grateful,” he said. “I will always remember your organization.”
His story reflects a different kind of community champion. Not someone defined by recognition, but by resilience. By the willingness to keep going, to accept support, and to take the steps needed to move forward.
Because when someone chooses to keep trying, change becomes possible.
