What our neighbors need today may look different from what they need tomorrow. Being part of a strong community means paying attention to both.
For someone looking for work, the next step may be finding the right job. But sometimes it’s gaining a new skill, earning a credential or simply having access to an opportunity that wasn’t available before.
That’s one reason we’re continuing to grow Workforce Development at NFCC.
This year, with support from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we expanded access to forklift certification training. So far, 11 community members have completed the training, earning an industry-recognized credential that can open doors to new jobs, advancement and higher wages.
Carlos completed his certification in May.
“I plan to use this certification to increase my employment opportunities and qualify for warehouse and forklift operator positions.”
That certification now goes with him. Into his next interview. His next job. And whatever opportunity comes after that.
That’s what serving better can look like.
Serve Better is one of our strategic priorities at NFCC, and it means adapting and evolving how we serve families as their needs change.
Sometimes that means helping meet an immediate need. Other times, it means looking beyond that need and asking what could help one of our neighbors move forward.
Forklift certification is one answer to that question. There will be others.
As our community continues to change, we’ll keep listening, learning and finding new ways to connect our neighbors with practical skills and opportunities that can move them toward greater financial stability.
Because a flourishing community isn’t something any one person or organization creates. It’s something we build together.
