Latisia came to NFCC as a volunteer in the thrift shop just before the Covid pandemic. She owns a hair salon in Roswell, but has been struggling since the Covid shutdown. She went from having eight stylists to having to manage the business and her clients on her own. At the thrift shop, she learned NFCC’s education services and reached out for financial coaching and other opportunities to improve her finances while she increases her business.
To stay afloat during slow months, she takes advantage of the food pantry. She is grateful for the help she receives, but when she talks about the Excel class series she just completed, her face lights up.
“The Excel Class was wonderful…we learned a lot. She covered a lot. We did like two or three chapters of the syllabus per class and then the next week we would reflect on what we learned last week. She even gave us thumb drives to download and practice on our own,” says Latisia. “I learned how to do spreadsheets. I learned how to pull data from one sheet to another. I needed (Excel) for my business for my financials because I’m a hairstylist so I need to keep track of all my expenses. “
She recently completed a workforce development workshop about avoiding predatory lending threats and is planning to attend our upcoming LinkedIn workshop. She hopes to be paired with a new financial coach soon and is even planning to get a Google marketing certificate on her own online.
Her enthusiasm is contagious. During the predatory lending workshop, Latisia couldn’t help telling her classmates about the Excel class and other available services.
“I love to help because ya’ll give back so much. You really do a lot for the community and it’s definitely needed,” says Latisia.
We are excited to see how her continuing education paired with her drive and optimism combine to help her business thrive.
